No Sew DIY Fake Window

Recently, I made a bold move to buy fabric from and make my own window treatments. Yes, actual fabric, not a shower curtain or something I had lying around my home : )
The package from fabric.com came and I was so excited. I couldn't wait to make the curtains for my bedroom right away....and then I had a better idea.
The wall, to the right of my bed, is super big! I get overwhelmed by big walls. Not sure on where to begin with decorating but then I had a thought. I could make a fake window in the middle of the big wall. The fabric would break up the large canvas of a wall and actually does look like there is now a window there. I still have to add some art and shelving, but am happy with the way the fake window broke up the large blank slate. Happy Weekend! Partying over at www.jenniferrizzo.com

Supplies:
Fabric (I cut the pieces in half)
Scissors
Staple gun: I stapled the fabric over with a two inch margin.
Curtain Rod (Had leftover from last apartment)
For Renters: I used 3M adhesive hooks so I did not have to drill holes in the wall.
BORING!

Ugh! Love it!

Wala! A magical window appeared : )

A Vintage Gift from Poppa

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to see all the tools that my Poppa (Grandfather)  worked with as years as a carpenter. His passion for working and creating beautiful things was something the family adored about him.
As difficult as it was to see some of his belongings be sold, I can only hope the tools had fallen into other creative hands. I was blessed to find some amazing things that I could not leave his home without. I can not wait to get started with some amazing projects with his old stuff. : )
Gorgeous brushes and electric sander! So excited and inspired!

This is def my favorite!

The years of beautiful work.

Enough lawn supplies for an army :)
Enjoy this beautiful weather.

1 Minute DIY Window Treatment

Good Morning. : )
I have found another reason to turn something old into a new idea.
My grandmother had given me a lace overlay a few months ago. It was so pretty and FROM HER so I wanted to do something special with it. (not have it buried away in a closet for months)
Last week, I showed you the "Before" and "Half Way Done Bedroom Reveal" and saw the horrific bedroom window blinds that were in the room. There was old splattered paint on the blinds as if someone just came in the room and decided to splatter paint.
I have been in the process of picking fabric for the curtains and came up with the idea to use the lace as a window treatment. It took about 1 minute to hang it the way I wanted and I used 3 thumbtacks in the wall to hold the fabric in place. (and cause I am a renter)

Decorating with the Old in the Living Room

Happy Monday!
I have finally forced myself to continue to unpack from the move. I am starting to get organized and completely unpacked....and it feels fab!
I have been learning to live with less lately. It's not easy..especially when you are a hoarder of vintage things...but I am trying to be smarter with what I keep. The French flag was a keeper and knew it would add some color to the living room.
The bird's nest is a given right??
The room is starting to feel cozy, just like I wanted it to feel. : )

Still working on hiding those darn cords!

"Before" and "Half Way After Bedroom" Makeover

Hey There!
Things are still in progress but wanted to show you a sneak peak of the bedroom....since you have seen a sneak peak of the living room : )
Grey, white, and pink seem to be the colors. I kept the same bedspread and quilt because I needed something to be of familiarity with all these moves lately. I am just going to add some different patterns of this color scheme together with fabrics and some shelving.

Here is what I have for now....

Before (Paint is not my choice)

The lace pillow was given to me by my grandma. It is a keeper!

I can not wait for this to be fixed!!!!!
BIG PROBLEMS HERE PEOPLE! Do you see how the blinds were left?? I mean really??
I decided not to buy a new bed so I am going to just do another headboard makeover similar to my old one found HERE

I am slowly but surely getting everything in order and decorated. Hoping to have everything finished and decorated by the end of this month, but I am sure I will change everything 100 times by then : )

Andre...my 11 1/2 year old Yorkie...

Andre, my 12 year old Yorkie, has the same feeling about moving as I do....WE ARE OVER IT!
Poor lil guy has lived in four homes in his 11 1/2 years here and has moved 2 times over the past year. He is a crazy dog, but I can't help but love him to death. He has been with me from 5 weeks old, through happy times and very challenging times, and as crazy as he is.....I love him more than anything.
Was the perfect day to play with my camera...Andre enjoyed it for about 5 minutes.

Say What?! This picture makes me belly laugh!

THE END

2013 Summer Review: One Lucky Girl

Time is just flying by. I am three months away from getting my Baccalaureate degree and I could not be more excited. (It has been a long time coming)

I always do amazing things over the summers and never really took a moment to reflect. This summer was just so awesome, that I wanted to remember everything that was awesome about it! : )

I mean really!!! Does it get much better than traveling, living in an amazing place like Montclair, and learning new painting skills?? This summer was simply wonderful!
Enjoy the day : )

Another Favorite Candle

With a new living space, you need a new scent.....at least I think so : )
I came across this amazing candle in Homegoods, sniffed it, and fell in love.
With Fall around the corner, I wanted a hint of a woodsy aroma. Especially, when it is less than $10.
I loved the packaging, loved the smell, and love this candle. Just perfect for my tiny workspace.

DIY Rustic Frame Makeover with Old Curtain Art

I just live for making new rustic looking things with old objects! I am still not fully unpacked from moving, but always make the time to get creative : )

I had an old frame that I wanted to revamp. You have seen this frame before in my old post of William Sonoma Napkin Art

I was over the gold frame. I wanted something fun and bright to hang in my new home. I had a curtain from my previous apartment that I knew would look amazing in a bright frame.

Instead of buying art that a million others have....I made my own. This rustic DIY project brought a pop of color to the neutral living room. (pics to follow) Exactly what I wanted : )

SUPPLIES:

Small paintbrush
White (leftover) acrylic paint
A piece of fabric (or an old curtain)
Miss Mustard Seed Antique Wax
An old sheet to paint on

Old Curtain

Tada!!!! Need to steam the fabric but you get the idea : ) Was too excited to show you to wait to iron : )

Love how the wax darkened the frame just a bit.
Happy Labor Day!
