My Favorite Corner-S

I have moved three times in the past two years and seem to find a favorite spot in each home. For some odd reason, my favorite spot always ends up being in a corner of a room somewhere....tucked away where I can curl up with a blanket and take a moment of "me time".

In my first NY apartment, this was my favorite corner 

 

I loved this corner filled with my favorite vintage finds mixed with newer accessories.

In our current home, my new favorite corner lies in our bedroom. The white comfy tufted chaise is my favorite piece of furniture. I love to swap out the pillows constantly for a continuously new look.

I was given this denim screen to do something fun with before it was thrown out in the trash. I love it and it adds shape to the bedroom. I'm thinking of using it as a picture holder, but want to add more detail to it before I add some pictures.

Before & After Bedroom

Our bedroom is my favorite place to be.
The pops of blue bring about a sense of serenity to me. It's a color that goes with everything and with the way I change up things...I need a color that is very versatile.
I think it is important to surround your bedroom with beautiful things. Candles, flowers, and spiritual reminders are my must-haves for our bedroom. :)

 

I was so happy pleased with this cane headboard from Ballard Designs. Quick delivery and exactly what it looked like online.

Love the natural sunlight this room gets.

My favorite piece of furniture I actually did not paint.

Before & After: Another Ann Sloan Makeover

I could not breathe when a client dropped off this amazing bench to redo! I was overwhelmed with so much excitement that I was ready to start painting the second it hit our apartment floor.

I knew that a deep blue distressed look was perfect for this piece...and the client agreed. Three coats of paint and some dark wax for distressing.....I had the perfect bench for a great entryway or laundry room.

I just adored this color for this bench. I love how the blue has a greyish tint in the natural sunlight and a deeper blue without.

I really focused on an extreme weathered look around the details of the legs. Everything just looks better with some age :)

10 Minute Lamp Makeover for $2



Rise & Shine! Time for a ten minute makeover that made a big difference in my bedroom.

I purchased two of these lamps one year ago from Christmas Tree Shop. They were a great deal at $34.99 each and knew over time I would find a way to add some detail to make them a little less boring.

 

I came across this great burlap ribbon in Michael's craft store and got to thinking of where I could use it.

The lamps were the perfect spot in need of some detail. One roll of the burlap did the trick for the bottom trip of the lampshade. I love the age it added to the boring 'ol shade and this project only cost $2!!

 

As the day progressed and the natural sunlight comes through the window.....

Vintage Mailbox Makeover

I recently set out on a quest to find something unique that would work as a "mail holder" inside our home. I came across this perfect vintage mailbox and knew it would do the job.

 

However, I was not really into the color. Love mint....don't get me wrong...just was looking for something with a little age. So, I picked up a paint brush and got to work. I decided blue would be a more universal color since I am sure I will change the location of the mailbox 100 times. A piece of sandpaper, Vasoline, and some leftover paint, I felt that I had a completely "new" old mailbox.

Nyack Street Fair Recap & Beautiful Lessons Learned

Never did I expect the unbelievable turnout at the Nyack Street Fair on July 13! When I first had the guts to apply as a vendor, I knew the amount of people that attend this event, because I am one of them every street fair. I knew it was filled with tons of jewelry vendors and knew it would be a great opportunity to show something different....vintage finds and rustic distressed furniture, but would everyone think the same way I did?

By 6:30 am...the day already felt long. My poor fiancé took on the enormous job of lugging the furniture down to the car to unload at our location on the street. Since this was my first time as a vendor, I decided it would be best to only bring a few pieces, not too large, as a trial. Plus, we only lived a street away from our location, so what did we really have to lose?

Up we went with our tent and the small furniture pieces and a few vintage finds all started to fit together. I had set up a mock display a few days prior to the event to see how I wanted things arranged. It came to me quicker than I expected. I put myself in a "shopper's shoes." What would I want to see if I was shopping for furniture? (which is like EVERYDAY!)

I had two banners created with the SoiledRotten logo and also made some bunting with leftover fabric and burlap. Within twenty minutes, the tent was set up, I was satisfied, and so grateful to be a part of the busy event.

I was ready to accept all, if anything, that the day would bring my way. I thought that the worse case scenario would be if no one was interested in my product then I would sit with Joe and people watch all day. Luckily, that was not the case. My first purchase of a vintage globe started at the initial hour that the fair was open to the public. Not only did the purchase get me even more excited to see what the day brings, but the lovely ladies that said they were so excited to see something than "the same 'ol crap" made my day! Happily, they were not the only customers with those types of comments.

I felt BLESSED. Many fair attendees admired my work. They were so kind to offer compliments on my furniture and be interested in the stories behind the old vintage finds. The insight that the customers gave or the complimentary passer-by-ers gave were more valuable than any purchase that could have been made. This beyond boosted my confidence in my creativity and gave me a permanent smile to know it was appreciated by others. After every nice remark, I heard a soft whisper of my other half's voice saying "I told you that you are talented. Now believe it." Words I will never forget.

The day was a huge success. I have networked, developed admirers of my painting, and learned more lessons about my target customers than I ever thought possible. This fair was a beautiful lesson learned.

Before & After Tea Tray Makeover

Happy Monday!
Who doesn't look breakfast in bed?

I received this tea tray from Teavana as a gift last Christmas. It was a great gift idea along with an adorable tea set that just makes me smile when I use it.

However, the tray had one problem. The lacquer shiny finish would allow food or tea/coffee to slide all over the place causing spillage. You definitely do not want coffee spilling on your new white sheets! So, I had a plan.
I decided to give the tray a makeover. I used paint with a chalky finish to allow for resistance against the bottom of a cup or saucer and avoid the possibility of spilling. I used a stencil in the middle of the tray to add some colorful, yet calming design. After the makeover, the tray has a subtle warn look with a modern design. I am so happy with the "After" results.

Good Morning All. I'm excited to be sharing my two favorite pieces of home décor that I will be selling this Sunday at the Nyack Street Fair.

Before & After: Ann Sloan Furniture Makeover

I live for a good piece of old furniture that needs a makeover. I stopped by my first local garage sale of the summer two weeks ago and found this gem.

The Before

It had great "bones" and just needed a small pick-me-up. I had some leftover Ann Sloan paint in "Olive" and new it would be a perfect match.

A few coats of paint and some burlap drawer lining...here is the After

I removed the old flower drawer liner and added burlap. It is more durable and love the unfinished edges.
