Project Nightstand

I am so excited that one of my friend's gave me the opportunity to purchase two of her nightstands. She was moving and has no room in storage for them...so I jumped right on the chance. They have great "bones" and just what I was looking for. I have been wanting to try a new color of chalk paint....preferably red...and this might just be the opportunity : )
I found this red by Anne Sloan called Emperor's Silk....think this is where I am going with these nightstands. Can't wait to distress them and see how they come out!

Found this picture on Pinterest....Sloan's Emperor Silk...Love it.

Rustic Inspired

Happy Thursday : )
I love looking through my old design magazines to remember the reasons why I kept them around instead of throwing them out. There is nothing I love more than the old farmhouse look with new age décor meshed together. The feel of an old rustic cabin just makes me want to curl up and have hot chocolate in front of the fireplace. (Can't wait for the Fall)
I absolutely adore the pictures of this home. The way the homeowner used old vintage signs and plates for decoration is fantastic. Homes like this gives me so much inspiration and ideas. I love it!
Look at the salvaged wood above the sink! I'm obsessed. Those bar stools are amazing!

I have the same cowhide rug......love the mix of hydrangeas and cow painting. Think this is my next place :)

Love the mix of leather and twigs. An awesome comfortable room!

Another good home

I am so lucky to have been selling a lot of my re-done furniture pieces lately. To me, it means that people are interested in my creativity. My favorite part is finding out where the furniture is going in its new home. I love when a person says "this rocking chair is going on my porch to have wine with my husband" or "this dresser is going in my new baby's room." It seriously warms my heart to know that the furniture is being passed on to a good home or homes for recent sake. Today, I sold my kitchen table that was "stamped" with love. It went to a wonderful family who had texted me once they left saying: "Thank you so much. It works perfect in our home and great for our family." How awesome is that! Makes all the creativity worth it : )

DIY Initial Charms

The best ideas seem to always come to meet when I am shopping for other projects. I always get completely overwhelmed when walking into an art supply or craft store. It is as if my creative side starts overflowing. I love it!
This may have been my favorite last minute DIY thought. I think the whole trend of "initial jewelry" is so cute and intimate. You can wear your initial, your kids, your husbands, boyfriend, whatever. It makes a simple and cute statement.
With that said, I decided to purchase a package of 3 empty charms. I added the initials myself and within 30 seconds...they were finished and I love them. The necklaces that I bought for them were too big to fit into the charm hole. I will show you the finish product with the new rope once I pick them up. Hope you have a great day!
For me : )

For my friend and her husband : )

The Tale of the Horse Knocker

Three plus years or so, I went on my first trip to Ft. Worth, Texas. Not only did I totally fall in love with the state, but I fell in love with a purchase I made in the Stockyards. I know this probably sounds crazy to some, but when the average person is looking for souvenirs, I am looking for home decor. Things I can buy and turn into something else. So, when I saw this horse knocker....I knew I had to have it. Crazy, right? I was a homeowner at the time, but my front door did not mesh with this knocker. Now, that I am a part of the apartment living society (lol)...the horse head continues to stay with me..but not attached to anything. I love the rustic finish and the color. I think it is time for this horse to be mounted as a towel holder....until I buy my next home. Until then, I love this self splurge no matter where it is! : )

Happy Friday!!!!

Patterns and Blue! Two of my faves!

I am usually not one to post from magazines or Pinterest. However, when I came across these rooms in Architectural Digest Magazine, I fell in love. Lately, I have a thing for patterns and to see these rooms in my favorite blue, just made me gasp! I love how the splash of pink flowers just completed the room with color. I feel a room makeover coming on after this inspiration!
This couch and mirror

That wall!!!!

These window treatments!!! Heaven!

Love this pattern. Not really my style but pretty awesome design!

One year Blog-a-versary!

I can not even begin to believe that it has been a little over a year that I had an idea. I have always been inspired and had a complete passion for decorating. I always knew I had a creative edge that was buried deep down in my soul....waiting to be released. I knew it was time to share my creativity with others and it began with the birth of SoiledRotten : )
I came up with the name for my love of "garbage finds" and junk. I could have never imagined that a year from last July (started in May but did not really kick off until July) that I would have reached 18,712 visitors!!!! The feedback from you viewers and other bloggers has been amazing and so greatly appreciated! Different projects and possibilities are rising from the courageous step of starting SoiledRotten and I can not wait to see what the next year brings! Please continue to provide feedback and keep exchanging your creative ideas with me. Thank you for an awesome year! xo, Alison

Perfectly Imperfect

The chair is finally completed! As I thought I was going to strive for perfection with the trim, but loved how the rough edges ended up looking. So to me, it is a perfectly imperfect chair. I used a cotton piping that only cost a few dollars. Love how it came out and happy I used the "no rules" of imperfection : )

Brimfield: The Lost Footage : )

Happy Monday Everyone!
I know this is long overdue but I did have some pictures from the Brimfield Flea Market in Brimfield, Ma. that I still wanted to share with you. Not only is this my favorite place to visit, but it is literally heaven on earth for antique and junk collectors. It is a bit away from NJ, but I get to see my besties and buy junk!!! Does it get any better than that???
After 2 1/2 hours...I make it to Brimfield...then the traffic began : (

Trying to make the best of the traffic by looking at some amazing buildings and architecture around the area. I would just love to restore this building! Sorry about the picture quality...best I can do from a cell phone : )
Finally made it!!!!

Lesson learned from previous Brimfield visit....bring rolling luggage for the hand held purchases....you do not want to walk around carrying heavy bags on your shoulder...not fun!

And you are now entering Heaven!!!!

Look at this building!! The colors and the design are just amazing.

How did I not leave with this piece!!!!!!! Only if I had the room and a purpose for it....

Does it get any better than all of this gorgeous stuff???

Creepiest thing we saw for sale....."Foot Stool"...really?

Can't wait to share my next visit with you! Hope you enjoyed : )

2 Minute DIY Art

I just love a project that takes less than five minutes! I wanted to revamp this rustic frame I have had for a long time. It was def due for a mini makeover. I printed a quote I found on Pinterest and made this bow from burlap and a pin ( was used in previous post of the "Farm Sign")
All you need is a frame, quote, scissors, and whatever embellishment you need to decorate the frame. Love how it came out! So quick and easy : )

Serenity Now

Good Morning! Today, I wanted to share a very special place with you that I enjoy most of my time at during the summer. My family has a boat at a marina in New York and I can say that I am the only one out of the fam that takes advantage of this relaxation. During the week, I enjoy the peace and quiet if the Hudson River and this is where I get most of my creative ideas. There is just something so calm about the water that puts me into a creative trans! Peace, water, champagne, and a flea market magazine equals a heavenly day!

The Infamous Tier Thingy

I can honestly say...this tier thingy I bought from Homegoods over two years ago has had so many uses! It was once a bird bath....side table decor....and now a vase! My creative side is running wild after being trapped inside sick over the weekend! It def. could use more roses, but this works for now : )

The Rustier, The Better

Happy Monday! By now, you can see that I live for all things weathered. I love a piece that has a story behind it...so the rustier...the better. I usually find my things in an old beat up barn or a consignment shop, but this time Homegoods did the trick. I wanted some organization for the things I use everyday...like hair products, lotion, and perfume. This little holder caught my eye from across the room and knew it was just what I was looking for. A big score for $12.99.... Just love the rustic look. : )

Miss Mustard Seed Paint/ Chair Makeover

I am soooooooo excited to finally talk about Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint that I was saving for a special makeover. I ordered the paint online and I could not wait for the paint to get here quick enough for me to tackle this project. I had an antique chair that was in desperate need of a face lift. I knew this paint would fit this piece just right. I am only half way done with the chair (still trying to figure out the back piece) but needed to share the outcome out of pure excitement! Hope you like. The color of the paint is Grain Sack. (Click on each picture to enlarge)
Before

After : Still needs piping and back of chair done

Love this color!
