Bedroom Tour: Part 2: Craft Corner for $150

I'm so happy that you enjoyed Part 1 of yesterday's Bedroom Tour but Part 2 is beyond my favorite! I have been dying for the past few years to have my own craft area in my home. I have moved to 3 different apartments in the past 3 years and I finally took the plunge and added a "craft corner" to our current apartment. I know that my family and I will only be living in our current apartment for the next year or so, so I did not want to "go big and permanent" in our space. This corner is just right for me. I took an empty area of the bedroom and added my desired space to store all my paint supplies and crafting accessories.

I love it. I worked with pieces of furniture I owned.I spent no more than $150. It works and I wake up feeling inspired.

I plan on added a mood board to the right under "PAINT." I am working on a post with all the details but for now, I wanted to share this awesome area with you!

The Before

Another Before

The Craft Corner lies to the right of our bed. It fits just perfect.

Mason jars for craft supplies.

Stacked boxes and luggage for a laptop table. There is room for storage in each item.

Wrapping paper covered the walls of this area. It is held up by thumb tacks an ribbon for a clean edge. Wrapping paper was only $1.50 a roll and still had some left over.

My favorite chair that has stayed with me through all my moves. Love the chippy look!

This shelf is a work in progress but it is enough space to hold all my paint.

When I do a room makeover, I am realistic with my decisions. I always craft or paint in a large area which is usually the kitchen table. For now, this area is to store all my creative things and blog.
Thank you for checking out my Craft Corner.
Happy Day!

Glamour Organization

Part of my New Year's resolution (as I am sure many of you feel the same way) is to get organized! I feel that the past year has been taken over by so many wonderful life changes, but has left our physical world around us in unorganized chaos. A baby brings many new items to your home and leaves you with little time to organize your own belongings. So....with the hour that my princess gets her beauty rest, I get to some beauty organization. I'm going to call it Glamour Organization.

I have organization ADD, just as bad as I have decorating ADD. When I think of where to begin, I jump from room to room and closet to closet and unable to focus on one area at a time. I thought it would be best to categorize my organization strategy. I began with my earrings that I wear on a daily basis. I purchased this old worn bowl from Brimfield Flea Market years ago. I found it hiding in my closet and I thought it would be the perfect size to hold my earrings and wedding rings.

Next, I turned to my sunglass collection. Do you think I have a problem here??? I have about 5 more pairs in my car! This glass box used to house my jewelry and now the perfect space for my shades.

The next organization project was my baby Brie's headbands. I found that by the end of the week, there were headbands everywhere....in every drawer, on the floor, and tangled in a ball. I had another jewelry holder that would be perfect for her room. Here is how the headband arrangement turned out.

Here is some Glamour Organization  at its best...or at least my best :)
Next category is my paint/paintbrushes organization! I found these glass jars in our storage closet and have the perfect pile of mess to organize with these gems.

I have the itch to tackle a really great piece of furniture with some new MMS milk paint. I think some organization will give me some great motivation.
Enjoy this day.

Past Fall Home Decor Projects & Inspiration

Who doesn't think Fall is the best time of year? Pretty much..no one. Warm apple cider, a faux fur blanket, and baking are some of what I love about Fall. Fall decorating blows every other season in NY away. The neutral colors and the pops of natural earthy elements are my obsessions with decorating in Fall. I wanted to share some past Fall decorating projects with you and some inspiration via Pinterest. I have not started to decorate for Fall yet (will explain why in post to follow) but can't wait to get creative for this season. Happy Early Fall and can't wait to see all your fall projects!

Wreath found in thrift store for $1.

One of my favorite white pitchers from a thrift store for $1.50. Dried hydrangeas from my old garden.

Faux pumpkin and garland from Homegoods.

I would live in this little home : ) How amazing are the surrounding gardens and pumpkin patches???

I am so looking forward to painting and getting crafty with some pumpkins! (last 3 pictures were found via pinterest)

Enjoy this day,
Alison

Milk Glass & Pops of Color

Who doesn't love a good piece of milk glass? I have several milk glass vases and wanted to think of an unconventional way of using them. In preparation for an apartment gathering, I quickly through together some fun vintage finds on our bar cart and knew the milk glass would be great for holding lemons and limes for drinks. (Love taking pictures when the sun is just coming up)

Me & fresh flowers always equal happiness :) The perfect way to add a pop of color to a room without being part of the room's color palette.

Another fun way to add color and to nourish your husband's chocolate addiction.

Old chippy paint is my most favorite way of adding color and character to a room.
A room full of color fills me with creativity and encourages other ideas for future projects.
Happy Day.

Vintage Mailbox Makeover

I recently set out on a quest to find something unique that would work as a "mail holder" inside our home. I came across this perfect vintage mailbox and knew it would do the job.

However, I was not really into the color. Love mint....don't get me wrong...just was looking for something with a little age. So, I picked up a paint brush and got to work. I decided blue would be a more universal color since I am sure I will change the location of the mailbox 100 times. A piece of sandpaper, Vasoline, and some leftover paint, I felt that I had a completely "new" old mailbox.

Nyack Street Fair Recap & Beautiful Lessons Learned

Never did I expect the unbelievable turnout at the Nyack Street Fair on July 13! When I first had the guts to apply as a vendor, I knew the amount of people that attend this event, because I am one of them every street fair. I knew it was filled with tons of jewelry vendors and knew it would be a great opportunity to show something different....vintage finds and rustic distressed furniture, but would everyone think the same way I did?

By 6:30 am...the day already felt long. My poor fiancé took on the enormous job of lugging the furniture down to the car to unload at our location on the street. Since this was my first time as a vendor, I decided it would be best to only bring a few pieces, not too large, as a trial. Plus, we only lived a street away from our location, so what did we really have to lose?

Up we went with our tent and the small furniture pieces and a few vintage finds all started to fit together. I had set up a mock display a few days prior to the event to see how I wanted things arranged. It came to me quicker than I expected. I put myself in a "shopper's shoes." What would I want to see if I was shopping for furniture? (which is like EVERYDAY!)

I had two banners created with the SoiledRotten logo and also made some bunting with leftover fabric and burlap. Within twenty minutes, the tent was set up, I was satisfied, and so grateful to be a part of the busy event.

I was ready to accept all, if anything, that the day would bring my way. I thought that the worse case scenario would be if no one was interested in my product then I would sit with Joe and people watch all day. Luckily, that was not the case. My first purchase of a vintage globe started at the initial hour that the fair was open to the public. Not only did the purchase get me even more excited to see what the day brings, but the lovely ladies that said they were so excited to see something than "the same 'ol crap" made my day! Happily, they were not the only customers with those types of comments.

I felt BLESSED. Many fair attendees admired my work. They were so kind to offer compliments on my furniture and be interested in the stories behind the old vintage finds. The insight that the customers gave or the complimentary passer-by-ers gave were more valuable than any purchase that could have been made. This beyond boosted my confidence in my creativity and gave me a permanent smile to know it was appreciated by others. After every nice remark, I heard a soft whisper of my other half's voice saying "I told you that you are talented. Now believe it." Words I will never forget.

The day was a huge success. I have networked, developed admirers of my painting, and learned more lessons about my target customers than I ever thought possible. This fair was a beautiful lesson learned.
